Talking about yourself

Practise answering typical questions about yourself: your job, family, hobbies and where you live. Listen to what the question really asks – Was machen Sie beruflich? is about your job, not your free time.

beruflich = for work, professionally.

Someone asks: „Woher kommen Sie?“ What do you answer?

Woher? = where from?

A new colleague asks: „Hast du Geschwister?“ What do you answer?

Geschwister = brothers and sisters.

A neighbour asks: „Was machst du in deiner Freizeit?“ What do you answer?

Freizeit = free time.

It started in the past and is still true now.

Your teacher asks: „Wie lange lernen Sie schon Deutsch?“ What do you answer?

Wie lange … schon? asks about a period that continues until now.

You describe where you live. Which sentence sounds natural?

Which preposition do you use with die Wohnung?

Someone asks: „Sind Sie verheiratet?“ You are not married, but you have a partner. What do you say?

ledig = not married.

You didn’t understand the question. What do you say?

wiederholen = to repeat.
